Park Avenue Summer by Reneé Rosen (2019)
The Vanity Fair Diaries 1983-92, by Tina Brown (2018)
A Woman Makes A Plan, by Maye Musk (2020)
I’m in the mood of some light fun, or perhaps International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8th that made me to read some books written by women or about women.
Park Avenue Summer is a novel about Helen Gurley Brown (1922-2012), the legendary editor-in-chief of Cosmo magazine when she first started at the magazine in 1965, how she fought for survive. She was often quoted as saying, “Good girls go to heaven. Bad girls go everywhere.” The novel is largely factual. HGB would remain there till 1997 when the magazine felt she no longer could connect with the reader.
The Vanity Fair Diaries 1983-92, by Tina Brown (1953-) who’s British import. VF got her to be its EIC when she was not yet 30. Her diary is filled with actions, gossips …
Both Browns, although two generations apart but they all faced the same problem when they starting out: to fight or fit into the men’s world, and to survive.
A Woman Makes A Plan, by Maye Musk, mother of Elon is a weak book.
