The Code Breaker, 2021

The Code Breaker: Jennifer Doudna, Gene Editing, and the Future of the Human Race by Walter Isaacson (1952-). This book is out only two months but the ratings on Amazon is 2,917 at this writing, hooray.

It’s a slightly different from a conventional biography, and unlike his book Steve Jobs (2011), many people, scientists are being profiled, which meant it’s definitely less centered on Doudna but rather on the people and circumstances surrounding her that made her who she is and what she had accomplished thus far.

Science is beautiful.

杜德娜Jennifer Doudna, 是生物化学家 因CRISPR基因编辑的开创性工作, 赢得2020 诺贝尔化学奖 和Emmanuelle Charpentier.

书里提到了好几个中国人 比如张峰和贺建奎. 相比之下 留在美国发展的张 虽然也小有争议 但还是比较受尊重. 贺则是个毫无突破和建树的人. 一心一意的沽名钓誉争第一. 一次会后 贺问杜可不可以去她的实验室看看. 杜有点匪夷所思 (毫无建树… 来我这儿干啥呢), 拒绝了. 贺为那对双胞胎所做的是无用功 即没有医学突破 (因为早就有其它方法,比如洗) 也没有帮助到双胞胎 因为其中一个没有对艾滋病的抵抗力!!! A hack job. 蛋痛.

贺录像了父母同意参与实验 有趣的是贺拉着一个人坐在他旁边他们讲的都是中文. 还是需要靠外来的和尚…

所有知道他的同行都没有把他当回事. 但是双胞胎出世后他们都后悔没有阻止贺 因为他抹黑了整个行业.贺的父亲是个湖南麦农 他出生地平均每家年收入仅$100. 他能够来念下一个博士实属不易… 但是最终没有守住底线. 据说央视采访过他, 贺骄傲的说“… 对, 是我发明的… 不是.” 盗窃比较容易吧[闭嘴]

这本书虽然是关于杜 但是和传记有小小不同是作者花了很多篇幅写影响杜的其他人/事. 耳目一新.
